The Challenge:

Senior leaders at Boehringer Ingelheim recognised a growing need to work better together. As projects became more complex and cross-functional teams became the norm, collaboration began to feel more challenging. Misunderstandings surfaced more frequently, timelines slipped, and decision-making often stalled. It was not because of a lack of expertise, but because team members didn’t always understand each other’s working styles or expectations.

To address this, the leadership team set out to strengthen trust, improve communication, and create greater alignment across their group. They wanted a clearer, more structured way to understand how each leader preferred to operate—how they made decisions, processed information, and engaged with others. The goal was not only to improve day-to-day collaboration, but to build the kind of mutual understanding that supports faster, more strategic execution.

They also saw the need to clarify roles and responsibilities in a way that felt inclusive and empowering. As the organisation grew, it became more important to define how work got done and who should take the lead in different situations. Without that clarity, even the most capable teams risked working at cross-purposes. The leadership team knew they had to act and not just to improve performance, but to support a healthier, more aligned team culture.

PPEARL delivered a half-day, in-person session centred on the Team Management Profile (TMP), a powerful assessment tool designed to help leaders better understand how they work individually and together. Rather than running a traditional leadership workshop, the session focused on helping senior leaders interpret their TMP results in a practical, honest, and collaborative way. The Impact:

The Team Management Profile (TMP) assessment gave leaders valuable insight into how they naturally work, communicate, and contribute within a team. Participants appreciated how clearly the tool highlighted both individual preferences and team dynamics, helping them better understand not just themselves, but also the colleagues they interact with daily. The clarity of the results and the simplicity of the framework allowed leaders to see patterns where alignment came easily, and where friction might arise.

With 100% of participants receiving and reviewing their personalised profiles, the session sparked immediate reflection. Many recognised behaviours or tendencies they hadn’t fully named before, and others gained language to explain work habits that had previously caused confusion or tension. The TMP helped move those conversations from guesswork to insight.

By the end of the follow-up workshop session, participants had a shared reference point for thinking about how they lead, how they collaborate, and how their different strengths could be used more intentionally across projects. The previous assessment didn’t just offer information—it created a common language for team performance, one that leaders could carry forward into real decisions about role-fit, communication, and how to support one another more effectively.
